NEW DELHI: Pragya Thakur, BJP MP from Bhopal, had an altercation with SpiceJet officers over her seating on a Delhi-Bhopal flight on Saturday, which delayed the take-off by 45 minutes. Thakur, on wheelchair, booked seat 1A by paying additional for that. Nevertheless,the Bombardier Q400 turboprop plane which was working on this route has the entrance row earmarked for “emergency” seating. Passengers who can not function emergency exits resulting from any causes will not be allowed to take a seat on these seats and, accordingly, the airline requested Thakur to vary her seat. The flight took off 45 minutes delayed after Pragya Thakur lastly relented and shifted to the second row. Whereas Upma Singh, an in depth aide of Thakur, blamed the airline over the episode saying that they’d paid additional for the entrance row and that there was no bar specified towards wheelchair passengers occupying the entrance row, the spokesman of SpiceJet defended their motion pleading that Pragya Thakur had introduced her personal wheelchair and that they weren’t conscious of her situation after they allotted her the entrance row at additional cost. Upma Singh stated: “We paid additional whereas reserving the flight for the entrance row. It was not specified wherever that an individual on wheelchair can not occupy the entrance row.
